Overview
The HIOKI BT4560 is a state-of-the-art battery impedance analyzer designed to accelerate and improve the quality control and research of batteries, especially those with very low internal impedance. It achieves accurate measurement without requiring charging or discharging of cells, by using low-frequency AC-IR measurement down to around 0.1 or 1 Hz. It is designed for both R&D labs and production lines for EV/ESS battery cells and modules. The BT4560 reduces inspection times drastically (to about 10 seconds in certain test conditions), while maintaining very high accuracy and stability.
Key Features
-
Supports AC-IR measurement over a wide frequency range: from 0.1 Hz up to 1,050 Hz.
-
Very high precision and resolution: impedance measurement resolution of 0.1 µΩ; DC / voltage measurement accuracy approx ±0.0035 % reading plus a few digits; voltage resolution down to 10 µV.
-
Measurement current capability: up to ~1.5 Arms on the 3 mΩ range; lower currents on higher resistance ranges to maintain S/N ratio.
-
Four-terminal pair measurement (source and sense leads), which reduces effects of cable/wire/contact resistance and improves stability and repeatability.
-
Simultaneous measurement of impedance, voltage, and temperature.
-
Fast evaluation: certain measurements can be completed in around 10 seconds when using low frequency (≈1 Hz or below) without pre-charging/discharging the battery.
-
Interfaces and functions suitable for automation and data analysis: LAN, USB, RS-232C, EXT I/O; compatibility with equivalent circuit analysis software; ability to perform frequency sweep; software to generate Nyquist (Cole-Cole) plots.
Applications
-
Evaluations in R&D labs to analyze battery internal behavior: charge transfer resistance, electrolyte resistance, diffusion resistance, etc.
-
Quality control on production lines for Li-ion battery cells and modules, especially for low-impedance batteries used in EVs, HEVs, ESS.
-
Aging / degradation analysis of battery cells, where internal impedance at low frequency is indicative of performance loss.
-
Inline / automated inspection when many cells need frequent checking with high repeatability.
-
Comparative diagnosis of battery cells: identifying defective ones by impedance/phase/frequency behavior.
